When Yellow Jackets Invade:
The Problem No One Sees Coming
You find a few Yellow Jackets buzzing around the back deck.
Annoying? Sure.
Dangerous? Maybe not — yet.
But here’s the part most homeowners — and even some new techs — don’t know:
If left untreated, Yellow Jackets can chew right through drywall and invade a home or business.
🧠 Why It Happens
Yellow Jackets build nests in wall voids, attics, and ceiling spaces — usually through tiny gaps in siding or vents
If they feel threatened or outgrow the space, they’ll chew their way in
The result? A swarm of aggressive wasps inside someone’s living room or workspace
I’ve seen this happen in:
Bedrooms
Home offices
Health Care Facilities
No warning — just a sudden explosion of wasps through the wall.
🚫 What Not to Do
Avoid treating during high-traffic times or when people are nearby — Yellow Jackets are highly aggressive when disturbed and can swarm quickly. Be Smart!
Don’t ignore the problem just because they’re “out of sight”
Don’t seal the entry hole before you’ve treated the nest — you’ll trap them inside
✅ What to Do Instead
Inspect early morning or after dusk, when the colony is inactive
Use a residual dust or insecticide spray designed for wall voids
Wait until the activity fully stops before sealing the entry point
🧰 Field Tip
If Yellow Jackets have already chewed through into the interior:
Treat the opening from the inside using a fast-acting dust or aerosol rated for indoor use
Wear a bee suit — they’ll be aggressive and unpredictable (especially in tight spaces)
Patch temporarily, then fully seal after 48–72 hours of no activity
This is no time for a halfway fix — get in, treat thoroughly, and monitor closely.
